internal drive
A disk, optical, or tape drive that fits inside a drive bay in the computer cabinet. It derives its power from the main power supply. Unless it uses a solid state drive, a general-purpose computer has one or more internal hard disk drives. Desktop computers and medium-sized and large laptops also have an internal CD/DVD drive. Contrast with external drive.
