jump(1) In a low-level programming language, a statement that directs the computer to go to some other part of the program. See branch and jumpword. jump 1. (as modifier): a jump cut 4. Computing another name for branch jump [jəmp] (computer science) A transfer of control which terminates one sequence of instructions and begins another sequence at a different location.
