| However, the CP-violation found in kaon decays, and incorporated into the Standard Model (SM) via the quark mixing mechanism, is too weak to explain the excess of baryons over antibaryons. In the studies of such decays at Brookhaven since the late 1980s, physicists there created kaon beams and observed the particles' fates using house-size detectors. This can be tested; for instance, a particle known as the kaon, which can be created in particle accelerators, should have a mass in the "correct" range to ensure that neutron stars eventually become black holes. |
