Kok-Saghyz

(Taraxacum kok-saghyz), a perennial herbaceous plant of the family Compositae. Kok-saghyz has a taproot, a rosette of leaves, and flower stalks with calathide heads. It is distributed in the interior intermontane valleys of Tien-Shan. It is a rubber-bearing plant; the rubber is found mainly in the latex vessels of the bark of the root. It was first cultivated in 1933, predominantly in the European part of the USSR. After the production of synthetic rubber developed, kok-saghyz was no longer cultivated.
