A lamp, searchlight, radio beacon, radar device, communicating device, or any system of such devices for aiding aircraft in an approach and landing. Also known as landing system.

Indeed the middle sections of the Brighton piers were blown up to prevent them being used as landing aids.
Jul 21, 2009 Emirates Airlines Emirates is to be the first airline to install Honeywell's new landing aid, designed to prevent runway overruns by warning pilots that an approach is unsafe while the aircraft still has time to go around.
There is no high terrain anywhere near the airport and pilots have every conceivable landing aid available to them.
