According to one theory, disordered ossification of the laryngeal cartilages contributes to mechanical trauma and ischemia, which in turn lead to the development of pluripotential mesenchymal stem cells.
The inquest, at Horsham Coroners Court, heard he had been diagnosed with Laryngomalacia, a congenital abnormality of the laryngeal cartilage which gave him problems with swallowing.
Microscopic examination of hematoxylin-eosin-stained sections revealed that the lesion was attached to the hypoglottic mucosa with no evidence of anatomic relationship to the laryngeal cartilage framework.
