Of the 43 excluded thyroidectomy patients, 22 had extensive concomitant surgery (15 multilevel lateral neck dissections, 4 laryngectomies, 2 median sternotomies, and 1 suprapubic dissection).
A review of the literature indicates a lack of systematic investigation on the types of needs of persons with laryngectomies in the domains of health services and social services, as well as the importance of those needs as perceived by the patients themselves.
Thirty-two patients with larynx cancer of the II-III degree, 25 laryngectomies and seven chondrectomies were completed.
