Lazar

(Lazar Hrebeljanović). Born circa 1329; died June 15, 1389. Serbian prince from 1371 to 1389.

In the beginning of the 1370’s, Lazar’s possessions stretched from the city of Novo Brdo in the south to Belgrade in the north. He strove to unify the Serbian state, which had virtually collapsed under King Uroŝ (1355–71). In 1373 he incorporated the regions of Užice and Rudnik into his possessions. By the end of the 1370’s, he ruled all of northern and central Serbia. He fought the threat of Turkish occupation. In 1386 his troops defeated the Turks in a battle outside Ploćnik. Lazar perished in the battle of Kosovo Polje.

Yes, but you are much in want of a revolution like our own -- not against your king, who is a mere child, but against that lazar of an Italian, the queen's favorite.
Close beside it one descried the quadrilateral enclosure of the fair of Saint- Germain, where the market is situated to-day; then the abbot's pillory, a pretty little round tower, well capped with a leaden cone; the brickyard was further on, and the Rue du Four, which led to the common bakehouse, and the mill on its hillock, and the lazar house, a tiny house, isolated and half seen.
