[Editor's note: This is the backward leaking of blood in the heart from the left ventricle (lower chamber) to the left atrium (upper chamber).
The now oxygen rich blood travels into the pulmonary vein (this is the only vein in the body to carry oxygenated blood) and then goes into the left atrium.
