Sociolinguists argue that one should investigate bilinguals' language use and code switching not only in terms of linguistic rules, but more importantly, the rules of language use that are shared by the members of the community to accomplish communicative functions (Romaine, 1989). Terms such as herbicide, insecticide, and infanticide illustrate the linguistic rule that, by adding to a noun the Latin suffix -cide, we identify the living thing killed. Through its intensive analysis of almost one billion names collected worldwide, LAS has automated the linguistic rules, which process names used throughout the world to define fast, accurate strategies for name matching and improved search outcomes. |
