(biochemistry)
C17H29COOH One of the principal unsaturated fatty acids in plants and an essential fatty acid in animal nutrition; a colorless liquid that boils at 230°C (17 mmHg or 2266 pascals), soluble in many organic solvents; used in medicine and drying oils. Also known as 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid.

The oil is low in natural fats and contains a mixture of fatty acids (omega-6 and omega-3) and gamma linolenic acid.
The plan is to use low-lin oil processed from Monsanto Company’s Vistive soybeans, which have less than 3% linolenic acid compared with 8% in traditional soybeans.
The dietary supplement VIACTAN Plus, which targets both dogs and cats, contains both essential fatty acids like gamma linolenic acid and antioxidants, including vitamin E.
