T, 20th letter of the alphabet alphabet [Gr. alpha-beta, like Eng. ABC], system of writing , theoretically having a one-for-one relation between character (or letter) and phoneme (see phonetics ). Few alphabets have achieved the ideal exactness.

The diagraph th represents the characteristic English interdental fricative, voiced in this, voiceless in thing. For modern misapprehensions concerning older signs for the fricative, see the letter Y Y, 25th letter of the alphabet . It was a Latin importation of the eastern Greek upsilon (see U ), which was pronounced like ü; the Romans used it for Greek words.

T - 1. True. A Lisp compiler by Johnathan A. Rees in 1982 at Yale University. T has static scope and is a near-superset of Scheme. Unix source is available.
