A radar or other device designed to detect and locate airborne aircraft.

a device for determining the position of an object by means of sound or electromagnetic waves reflected from the object or radiation emanating from it. The main categories of locators are sonar, radar, and optical locators. Optical locators usually use lasers as radiation sources.

i. An MF/LF (medium frequency/low frequency) nondirectional beacon used as an aid to final approach.
ii. A portable radio beacon, operating on 121.5/243/406 MHz, carried on the person or in a parachute harness. It may also have a voice facility. It is an aid to locating a downed pilot.
