login Signing in and gaining access to a network server, Web server or a computer. Also called "sign in," the process (noun) is a "login" or "logon," while the act of doing it (verb) is to "log in" or to "log on." In practice, "login" is commonly and incorrectly used as a verb as well. Logins generally require users to identify themselves by entering a username and password. Contrast with logout.
