In programming, an integer variable. In C, a long is four bytes and can be signed (-2G to +2G) or unsigned (4G). Contrast with short.

a. denoting a vowel of relatively great duration or (esp in classical verse) followed by more than one consonant
b. denoting a syllable containing such a vowel
