DLC (1) See digital loop carrier.(2) (Data Link Control) See data link and OSI. (3) (Data Link Control) The data link layer protocol (layer 2) that is used in IBM's SNA networking. See SNA, data link protocol and Microsoft DLC. (4) (Data Link Connector) A port in a car or truck that is used to obtain the vehicle's on-board diagnostic report. Auto mechanics, as well as consumers, plug into the DLC to obtain the current status of the vehicle. In 1996, the 16-pin J1962 connector was standardized in the U.S. for on-board diagnostics (OBD).
