Lycopodium Powder

the mature dry spores of various species of Lycopodium (club mosses), growing in coniferous forests of the USSR. It is very fine, light yellow in color, oily, odorless, and tasteless. Lycopodium powder contains up to 50 percent fatty oils, glycerine, sugar, and other substances. It is used pharmaceutically for coating or dusting pills to prevent them from sticking. The powder is also used in fireworks and as a cushioning layer of molds in intricate-shape metal casting. Lycopodium powder is obtained from mature spikelets that are cut and then dried thoroughly at temperatures of 35°–40°C.
