C10H19O6PS2A yellow liquid, slightly soluble in water; malathion is the generic name forS-1,2-bis(ethoxycarbonyl)ethylO,O-dimethylphosphorodithioate; used as an insecticide.

Malathion and naled are in the organophosphate class of insecticides, and permethrin, pyrethrins, resmethrin, and phenothrin are in the pyrethroid class.
However, the organophosphates malathion and chlorpyrifos are still legally used on many conventional crops.
