Subdiscipline of geophysics that is concerned with ocean phenomena. The main techniques and areas of study include heat-flow data, seismic reflection and refraction techniques, geomagnetics, and gravity studies. The principal concepts in marine geophysics are seafloor spreading, continental drift, and plate tectonics.
