masked ROM
(masked Read-Only-Memory) A memory chip that is manufactured with its contents. The term is used to refer to a ROM "chip" in contrast to the ROM "category," which also includes PROMs and EPROMs. The term may also be used to differentiate manufactured ROM chips from user-programmable memories such as PROMs and FPGAs. See ROM, PROM, EPROM and FPGA.
