A stick used by painters as a rest for the hand while painting.

Maulstick 

a wooden stick used by painters as a rest for the right arm while working on the detail work of a painting. It is usually 0.5–1.0 m long and consists of two or three parts. The maulstick ends in a small ball, which the artist presses against the canvas. The base of the rod is held in the left hand.
