In the process, each target was vetted for military necessity, proportionality, collateral damage and the presence of restricted/no-strike targets in close proximity to the fixed-wing aircraft's desired mean point of impact (DMPI) for precision-guided munitions.
Hellfire, Maverick, laser-guided bombs, air- and ground-mounted TOWs [tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided missiles] and Javelin are all PGMs that do not have the same limitation as JDAM--they do not need highly accurate target coordinates [desired mean point of impact, or DMPI] before being dropped or fired.
Although PGMs give the US military an unparalleled ability to strike any point on the earth precisely, the time required to mensurate a target's coordinates and determine the desired mean point of impact (DMPI) to ensure the PGMs can hit the target is generally a luxury troops in contact don't have.
