(electronics)

A gas-filled rectifier tube in which the gas is mercury vapor; small sizes use a heated cathode, while larger sizes rated up to 8000 kilowatts and higher use a mercury-pool cathode. Also known as mercury rectifier; mercury-vapor rectifier.
