US video game retailer GameStop announced Wednesday that it had reached agreement to purchase French video game retailer Micromania for 700 million dollars (480 million euros).

Interestingly, GameStop's chief executive recently stepped down, but he remains as chairman, with responsibility for acquisition opportunities and international expansion – the only two obvious large-scale acquisitions would be Micromania in France, and Game in the UK (one of the few major international markets in which GameStop is absent).
