The first edition (left), published in September 1967, was pages long; 500 copies were turned out by hand on a mimeograph in the basement of ABC Studios. When he left the sanitarium he really didn't have any trade, so he bought himself a mimeograph machine and made a sandwich board advertisement and hit the streets with his publication for the day's races. Dick company, which began by marketing the mimeograph, grossed $281 million in 1975. |
