Though it's impossible today to recapture the full effect of the original typed and then mimeographed newsletter, which would have been mailed out to other artists and distributed through the Phoenix Bookstore (in whose West Village backroom the mimeographing took place), we can still appreciate the quick, stripped-down production of The Floating Bear. So they gave me some report cards to type, and pretty soon I was working the mimeographing machine, too. Parker, was indefatigable in his secretarial work, which was only exceeded by his liberality in spending his own money for paper, mimeographing, typing, and mailing the bulletins which he started us fellow members to write and circulate. |
