Mitumba
(1) A mountain range in eastern Zaïre. Composed of volcanic and ancient crystalline rock, uplifted along fault lines above the grabens of Lakes Edward and Kivu and the northeastern edge of Lake Tanganyika. Length, about 400 km; elevations to 3,305 m. In the northern section it is the watershed between the Congo (Zaïre) and Nile rivers. Vegetation includes humid mountain tropical forests (on the western slopes) and mountain savannas. (2) A mountain range in southeastern Zaire. Uplifted along fault lines, frames the graben of Upemba in the upper course of the Lualaba River from the east. Length, about 700 km; elevations to 1,889 m.
