moulin (mlăN`): see pothole pothole, in geology, cylindrical pit formed in the rocky channel of a turbulent stream. It is formed and enlarged by the abrading action of pebbles and cobbles that are carried by eddies, or circular water currents that move against the main current of a stream.

(hydrology)
A shaft or hole in the ice of a glacier which is roughly cylindrical and nearly vertical, formed by swirling meltwater pouring down from the surface. Also known as glacial mill; glacier mill; glacier pothole; glacier well; pothole.
