Mountaineers 

(1)The common name for people and ethnic groups living in the mountain regions of any country.

(2)In Russian scientific and artistic literature, the name for inhabitants of the mountains of the Caucasus. During the first years of Soviet power, the word mountaineers (Russian, gortsy) was used to denote “the people of the North Caucasus,” from which came the name Gorskaia ASSR.
