a kiln with an inner chamber for firing porcelain, enamel, etc., at a low temperature muffle2 the fleshy hairless part of the upper lip and nose in ruminants and some rodents muffle 1. A material used to build up the core of a large plaster molding. 2. To deaden sound. Muffle a closed chamber in which material to be heated in a furnace is placed in order to prevent contact with products of combustion of fuel. Heat is transmitted to the material being heated through the wall of the muffle, which is made of molded firebrick or heat-resistant steel.
