Walker's digital assemblages foreground the ways in which media images are intended to work as ideological signposts, desire-piquing decoys, or pure propaganda, while testifying to the inherent multifariousness of every such message. The reader, however, is left haunted by another story, of indeterminacy, multifariousness, and conflictedness, which would more fully account for the relations between theater and politics in seventeenth-century England. |
