By contrast, the naked T Tauri stars lack both the infrared and ultraviolet excesses and the spectral hallmarks of a strong wind, but they are similar to their classical counterparts in all other respects.
Among naked T Tauri stars, the fraction of stars that turn out to be close binary systems is roughly the same as the fraction of binaries found among comparable older stars elsewhere.
That could explain why some naked T tauri stars have companions but no circumstellar material, whereas classical T Tauri stars, with their accompanying dust clouds, appear rarely to have companions.
