Neurinoma
a benign tumor that originates in the membrane of a nerve trunk. Neurinomas are most often found in the auditory nerve. Neurinoma of the skin usually appears on the extremities and is painful. With neurinoma of the auditory nerve, noises are heard in the ear and a decrease in hearing to the point of complete deafness can occur. As the neurinoma develops further, many symptoms that are due to increased intracranial pressure arise. These include dizziness, weakness in the mimetic muscles, tremor of the eyes, and headaches. Neurinomas are treated surgically. Want to thank TFD for its existence? Tell a friend about us, add a link to this page, add the site to iGoogle, or visit the webmaster's page for free fun content. |
