Night Soil

human urine and feces used as an organic fertilizer. Fertilizers derived from night soil contain approximately 7 percent dry matter, including 1.1 percent N, 0.26 percent P205, and 0.22 percent K20. They make up part of the content of domestic sewage. Night soil in the form of poudrette, obtained by processing with chlorine and subsequent drying, is a principal fertilizer for fodder crops, hemp, and potatoes; its use is prohibited for berry and vegetable crops. It is also used in the preparation of composts.
