Nonet

 

(1) A musical composition, generally in sonata form, for nine performers, usually instrumentalists. As a rule the nonet consists of a string quartet or quintet, to which various wind instruments have been added. There are also nonets for wind instruments alone and vocal nonets.

(2) A musical ensemble composed of nine performers.
