(botany) A nastic movement in higher plants associated with diurnal light and temperature changes. Nyctinasty in higher plants, the movement of leaves, petals, and other organs associated with the alternation of day and night and depending primarily on diurnal changes in temperature (thermonasty) and light intensity (photonasty).
