2. Med (of disease symptoms) perceptible to persons other than the individual affected
3. Optics
a. the lens or combination of lenses nearest to the object in an optical instrument
b. the lens or combination of lenses forming the image in a camera or projector

(optics)
The first lens, lens system, or mirror through which light passes or from which it is reflected in an optical system; many scientists exclude mirrors from the definition. Also known as object glass.
