The histologic pattern seen in obliterative bronchiolitis is that of fibrous tissue between the epithelium and muscularis mucosa causing concentric narrowing of the airway lumen. Obliterative bronchiolitis is reported as a cause of death over the long term in about 30% of lung transplant recipients. Obliterative bronchiolitis, or chronic rejection, remains a cause of significant numbers of deaths after lung transplantation. |
