Odontoglossum
a genus of plants of the family Or-chidaceae. They are epiphytes with a one- to three-leaved pseudobulb, that is, a thickened and somewhat flattened tuberous stem. The white, yellow, or greenish flowers are usually large, reaching as much as 16 cm across in some species. They grow in racemose or panicled inflorescences. The bracts of the perianth often have purple or brown spots. There are approximately 200 species of Odontoglossum, growing primarily in the mountains of tropical America, from Mexico to Bolivia. Many species have been long cultivated in greenhouses for their flowers. The most common species are O. crispum, O. nobile, and the baby orchid (O. grande). There are several thousand hybrids, including crosses with other genera of Orchidaceae. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
