| On 30 August 1956 the Air Coordinating Committee approved a common military-civil short-range air navigation system called VORTAC, which combined TACAN with the Civil Aeronautic Authority's very high frequency omnirange direction finder. The contracts in South America are for five very high frequency omnirange systems ("VOR") and distance measuring equipment ("DME") for Colombia and four instrument landing systems to be delivered elsewhere in South America. Our international contracts also included an award from Panama to supply a Doppler very high frequency omnirange system ("VOR"), an ILS system and two DMEs, as well as VOR's to Taiwan and Cambodia. |
