opal glass [′ō·pəl ‚glas]
(materials)
Translucent or opaque glass, often milky white, made by adding impurities such as fluorine compounds to the melt; it appears white by reflected light but shows color images through thin sections; used for ornamental glass and as an efficient light diffuser.
