The researchers used techniques that involve optical interference, focusing on a photon's phase (how far it has gone in its oscillation cycle) rather than its polarization.
PureDepth's patented Multi-Layer Display (MLD[TM]) technology brings expanded capability to display devices of any size by layering LCD screens on top of each other and removing optical interference.
By choosing how many beams to use, and by controlling both the angles at which the beams enter the cell and the angles the beams form with respect to each other, the researchers can sculpt specific optical interference patterns.
