optical pyrometer [′äp·tə·kəl pī′räm·əd·ər] (engineering) An instrument which determines the temperature of a very hot surface from its incandescent brightness; the image of the surface is focused in the plane of an electrically heated wire, and current through the wire is adjusted until the wire blends into the image of the surface. An optical pyrometer measures the VTBB cavity-partition temperature by sensing radiation from one end of the cavity. Glenro Split-Case Infrared Heat Tunnel systems also include control systems that feature digital operator interfaces, NEMA enclosures and SCR controls, which maintain oven temperature by thermocouple or optical pyrometer feedback control loops. An optical pyrometer mounted on other side of the cavity senses the radiation from the cavity. |
