orange peel [′är·inj ‚pēl]
(materials)
A pebbled film surface, resembling an orange skin, on lacquer or enamel as a result of too rapid drying after spraying, or failure to exhibit the desired leveling effects.
(metallurgy)
A rough, pebble-grained metal surface resulting from either plastic deformation or electropolishing. Also known as alligator effect; pebbling.

orange peel, orange peeling
1. In a paint film, a surface defect characterized by a rough texture resembling orange peel; results from the poor flow of paint or a poor application technique.
2. In ceramics, an irregular waviness of porcelain enamel surface; resembling an orange skin in texture; sometimes considered a surface defect.
