On otoscopic examination, EACC can be difficult to distinguish from other inflammatory, infectious, or neoplastic processes.
Otoscopic ear examination should be performed in conjunction with an audio-logic evaluation to exclude other treatable causes of hearing loss, including cerumen (earwax) impaction, ear infections, and tympanic membrane perforations.
Otoscopic checks were performed to insure that the ear canals were free of excessive or occluding cerumen.
