additional matter, other than a change in face value, applied to a finished postage stamp by printing, stamping, etc. overprint [′ō·vər‚print] (geochemistry) A complete or partial disturbance of an isolated radioactive system by thermal, igneous, or tectonic activities which results in loss or gain of radioactive or radiogenic isotopes and, hence, a change in the radiometric age that will be given the disturbed system. (geology) The development or superposition of metamorphic structures on original structures. Also known as imprint; metamorphic overprint; superprint. (graphic arts) To imprint over something that has been printed. To apply a varnish or lacquer to printed matter from a type or litho process, by means of a brush, spray, or roller coating.
