Fed females were placed in plaster of paris--lined oviposition containers, and larvae were maintained on a decaying rabbit feces/rabbit chow mixture (24). We held the females that produced these clutches for 48 hr after oviposition to ensure that they were postabsorptive and then anesthetized them before freezing (-60[degrees]C). Negative results occur during the acute stage because symptoms start before oviposition and during the chronic stage because of low-level or intermittent oviposition. |
