(communications, radio)packet radio - The use of packet switched communications protocols in large networks (i.e not wireless LANs or Bluetooth) having wireless links to terminals at least. Packet radio is split into amateur packet radio (AX25) and General Packet Radio Service (GRPS).

NORTEL NETWORKS, a Canadian telecommunications company, signed an agreement with Brazil's Claro, a subsidiary of America Movil, to provide a high-speed multimedia network, known as General Packet Radio Service, across its GSM cellular network in the country.
Packet radio is one of the new possibilities radio enthusiasts enjoy, Belcher said.
