pancreatic cancerMalignant tumour of the pancreas. Risk factors include smoking, a diet high in fat, exposure to certain industrial products, and diseases such as diabetes and chronic pancreatitis. Pancreatic cancer is more common in men. Symptoms often do not appear until pancreatic cancer is advanced; they include abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, and difficulty digesting fatty foods. | The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research honored Kalmon and Neil Dolgin, of Kalmon Dolgin Affiliates, Inc. The risk of pancreatic cancer was 75 percent lower in people who got the most folate (at least 350 micrograms a day) from foods than in those who got the least (less than 200 mcg a day). Those subjects who ate the most processed meat, foods such as lunch meat and hot dogs, had a 68 percent greater risk of having pancreatic cancer compared to those who ate the least processed meat. |
