(psychology)
A severe and disabling psychiatric condition characterized by spontaneous attacks of sudden and intense fear.

For example, if anxiety panic attacks happened in an elevator, somebody with panic disorder may develop a phobia of elevators that could apparently affect the choice of a job or a place to stay, and restrict where that person can look for medical attention, or do normal activities, or enjoy any type of entertainment or physical activities.
